My hypothesis has two parts.
1. Enlightenment is not a destination but a path. It relies on developing understanding, rather than acquiring knowledge, and it manifests itself in moments of realization; that is, sudden instances of understanding or “eureka” moments. This journey has no end point and relies on continues effort throughout life to achieve greater understanding.
2. The phenomenon of being born again in the Christian tradition, if it does manifest itself as a sudden moment of clarity, is such a moment of understanding or “eureka” moment.
I never thought of it like this, but it makes sense. It’s application, however, is dependent on “born again” being the result of personal reflection and a search for truth.
