Quote of the day 07/25/24

From Ralph Waldo Emerson:

“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.”

  1. It seems Emerson possessed a gift I do not have. If only I could begin each day unencumbered by the memories of the one before, or the one before that, so on back to the beginning, then perhaps my spirit would be lighter or at least fresher for a new day. For better or for worse, however, my memories are my constant companions, and I can no more put them aside then I can deny their role in making me who I am.
